Gund Kwok -- the only all Asian women lion and dragon dance troupe in the United States -- will have its 10-week trial class starting on Wednesday, March 3rd.
The troupe was established in 1998 by Cheng Imm Tan. The lion dance is traditionally performed by men, and Gund Kwok (which means heroine in Chinese) was created to combat the stereotype that women were incapable of performing such an art because of how much strength, endurance, and skill it takes to lion dance.
It doesn't matter how old you are (we've had a 55 year old grandmother who can lift anything) or how weak/out of shape you think you are. Lion dance can push and challenge your mind and body. As long as you're an Asian female who wants to challenge herself, you're in! We except high school and college females as well. If you're not interested, please forward this to anyone you think would be
interested.
